Humboldt County, California, voters pass ballot initiative repealing corporate 'personhood'
Green candidates nominated in California, endorsed in Minnesota
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Voters in Humboldt County, California, passed Measure T, an innovative ballot
initiative repealing the legal status of corporations as 'persons', limiting corporate influence on politics, on Tuesday, July 6.
Green Party activists led the effort to pass Measure T; the party and its candidates already refuse contributions from corporations.
"This is more than an issue of campaign finance reform -- it's a major step in the movement to bring real democracy to our political system," said Forrest Hill, Green candidate for California Secretary of State <http://www.voteforrest.org>.
"Measure T is a model for other towns, cities, counties, and states to restore the original purpose of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was to ensure equal protection under the law to human beings, not to corporations, which are artificial legal creations."

California Greens voting in Tuesday's primary chose the party's slate of statewide and federal candidates for the November election, including Todd Chretien <http://www.todd4senate.org>, who will compete with Sen. Minnesota Green Party members meeting in Duluth on Saturday, June 3, for their biennial convention nominated Michael Cavlan <http://www.cavlan.org>, a registered nurse and peace activist, for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Senator Mark Dayton.
Greens also endorsed Ken Pentel for Governor of Minnesota. Mr. Pentel, a long-time organizer, public speaker, and lobbyist for environmental protection and social justice, was the party's gubernatorial candidate in 1998 and 2002.
Minnesota Greens endorsed John Kolstad for state Attorney General. Mr. Kolstad currently serves as chair of the Minnesota Universal Health Care Coalition <http://www.muhcc.org> steering committee, whose goal is to enact a single-payer statewide health insurance plan to solve the state's health care crisis, a solution also supported by the Minnesota Green Party and its slate of candidates.
